Library Not Registered Javascript error with SharePoint and Internet Explorer 8

We use SharePoint 3.0 for quite a bit of document collaboration. Unfortunately, when using Internet Explorer 8, an error is thrown when we attempted to upload multiple documents within SharePoint. The error details mention Library Not Registered.

Luckily, there is an easy fix:

  • Open up any MS Office 2007 product. In my instance, I used Office 2007.
  • Go to Help>Office Diagnostics.
  • Run diagnostics. This took about 5 minutes to complete.
  • Return to your SharePoint site. the multiple document upload tool should now be working. Apparently, this fix re-registered any .DLLs that were causing the error. I love easy fixes!

    Hi there,

I have a question for you. In the past I was using IE7+XP SP3+Office 2007. When I upload multiple files to SP, the folder tree on the left pane used to remembr the last file location. Making it easy for next uploads. Now that moved to IE8+Win 7 (64bit), the folder tree on the left pane does not recognize the last folder that was used to upload and goes back all teh way to Desktop. Do you know if there is a fix for this one please?

    Thanks!
    Arun.

I know exactly what you mean, Arun, as I have experienced the same problem. In the end, I usually just map a network drive to the document list and access via Windows Explorer (opening up the source folder from the desktop and then dropping/dragging files as needed.
To map a drive, open up the document list in SharePoint. Then:
-Click on ACTIONS>OPEN WITH WINDOWS EXPLORER
-Once Windows Explorer opens the list (which will most likely require a login prompt), right click on the folder path and choose COPY ADDRESS
-Open up COMPUTER, MY COMPUTER, or WINDOWS EXPLORER and paste the address in the MAP A NETWORK DRIVE tool.
